Description
The Silver African Lion series debuted in 2015 as a coin issued by the nation of Burundi. That coin featured its own, unique “African Lion” branding and had a different depiction of the lion on its obverse face.
This year, the coins are released and available as bullion coins issued by the Republic of Congo.
On the obverse face of the coin you’ll find the image of a male lion closely guarding a female member of the pride. The two creatures are depicted with menacing looks on their faces, and the male lion’s mane is massive, taking up much of his facial area. The lone engraving on this face reads “African Lion.”
The reverse face of the coin bears the official crest of the Republic of Congo. Engravings on this face include the coin’s year of issue, weight, purity, and metal content. The face value of the coin remains set at 5,000 Francs, with the nation’s French-language spelling “Republique du Congo” featured above the crest.
