Description
The 50 Cents coin was first introduced on 14/02/1966, when Australia switched over to decimal currency system. The coin was stuck with 80% silver and rest in base metal.
As silver prices rose in 1967, producing the 50 cents coin in silver became unprofitable and eventually minting halted.
The coin features Queen Elizabeth II on the observe.
Since people were confused with dimensions of 20c and 50c coin, the shape of 50 cents coin was changed.
